Position Summary
Southland Contracting is seeking a motivated Field Engineer to join our team on the McNeil Tunnel Project in Austin, Texas. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional (0–2 years of experience) interested in developing specialized expertise in the underground tunneling and heavy civil construction industry.
The Field Engineer will work closely with project leadership and field operations, gaining hands-on experience in underground construction while supporting quality control, production tracking, and daily project execution. This role offers a unique opportunity to learn from experienced industry professionals and contribute to the successful delivery of a complex infrastructure project.
Responsibilities
- Assist with quality control inspections and documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Support underground tunneling operations and daily field activities.
- Track production quantities and maintain project records.
- Coordinate with superintendents, foremen, subcontractors, and project management staff.
- Assist with project documentation, reporting, and field communication.
- Monitor work progress and identify potential issues impacting safety, quality, or productivity.
- Support material tracking, equipment utilization, and field logistics.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to problem-solving efforts.
- Ensure adherence to company safety policies and project requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Recent graduate or 0–2 years of construction experience.
- Strong interest in heavy civil construction, underground utilities, or tunneling operations.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced field environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and work collaboratively with project teams.
